- I am not sure if having lived abroad in Zurich, Amsterdam and Lisbon as a youngster gave me the travel bug. After we came back from Europe I was fortunate that my family moved us to the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area, where I grew up. I attended UC Santa Cruz a beautiful University sitting on the a hill in the redwoods looking out on the Pacific ocean. The school mascot is the Banana Slug (kid you not). Then I went on to graduate in Computer Science from UC Berkeley where I started studying Japanese. After a brief and well deserved stint as a Ski Instructor at Heavenly Valley Ski resort in Lake Tahoe I went on to work in Hi Tech doing internationalization and localization. In this role I was fortunate to get to travel all over Asia and live there for extended periods. I love seeing beautiful far away places, eating foreign food, experiencing different cultures and trying to learn foreign languages. When my wife and I were living in Mill Valley, California we hosted 8 exchange students from all over Europe; Germany, Switzerland, Norway, and Spain. I moved to Germany 3 years ago with my wife. She is German and wanted to come back after years living in the US to be close to family. We are living outside of Munich near beautiful lake Chiemsee just 40 minutes to Salzburg, Austria. We are enjoying traveling all around Europe, it is so accessible. Since we didn’t have our own kids (our dogs excluded of course) we are now “exchanging” ourselves by visiting our exchange students and their families throughout Europe.
